About the Utah Permit Test

Based on the 2026 Utah Driver Handbook

The Utah learner permit test is administered by the Utah Driver License Division (DLD) and consists of 50 multiple-choice questions. To pass, you must answer at least 40 questions correctly (80%). The test is available at any DLD office and can be taken in English, Spanish, and several other languages.

Questions cover road signs and their meanings, traffic signals and right-of-way rules, Utah speed limits, DUI and alcohol laws (Utah’s BAC limit is 0.05%), seat belt and child restraint requirements, and safe driving practices. All material is drawn from the official Utah Driver Handbook.

To be eligible, you must be at least 15 years old and pass both a written knowledge test and a vision screening. If you’re under 18, you’ll also need a parent or guardian’s signature. After receiving your permit, you must complete at least 40 hours of supervised driving (including 10 hours at night) before you can get your full license.

Our practice tests are designed to closely match the format and difficulty of the real Utah DLD exam. Every question includes an explanation so you actually learn the material — not just memorize answers. Use our flashcards for quick review and the full handbook for in-depth study.
